WORKSHOP ITINERARY

DAY ONE: We start the weekend off with a brief welcome and housekeeping before you are given a demonstration of the essential brush strokes by Liane Barker (43 years experience in signwriting and gold leaf). You will then be given paint, paper, mahl stick and a signwriting brush where you will practice the essential brush strokes required for lettering under the constant guidance of Tatch and Liane. We will break for lunch and then you will be shown how to mark out the alphabet and understand letter proportion and spacing. You will mark out your own word (of your choice) to scale to fit your pre-painted panel.

DAY TWO: We start the day off by learning how to transfer your word onto your pre-painted panel ready for signwriting. Tatch will give a demonstration on how to signwrite the lettering using enamel paints and a mahl stick (it is not essential to use this tool, only if you feel comfortable with it) You will then choose your colours and start signwriting your word onto your panel with guidance every step of the way from Liane and Tatch. After lunch you will return to shade your lettering and if time permits, add other embellishments to finish your panel ready to take home. 

Do I need to have previous signwriting experience to attend?

Absolutely not! We will teach you step-by-step starting with how to use a signwriting brush, how to load with paint, how to construct the basic strokes necessary to create lettering as well as marking out and understanding proportion and scale to then mark out your own personalised panel.

What materials do I need to bring to the workshop?

All materials are provided including paint, paper, pencils, rulers as well as signwriting brushes and mahl sticks for use during the workshop. You are welcome to bring your own sign kit if you own your own brushes.

Will lunch and morning tea be provided?

Coffee, Tea and water as well as cake/snacks are provided for morning and afternoon tea both days. There is a fridge in the kitchen where you can store your lunch as well as plenty of local shops and cafes where you can purchase lunch and coffee.

Is there parking available on site?

There is no free parking available on site however there is plenty of street parking in and around the venue.

A full refund is available up to 14 days prior to the workshop - after that time only 50% of your workshop payment will be refunded to cover admin and material costs already purchased for workshop.
